This is the second version of my new long coat cut. This time I did it with vintage wooden buttons, leather backed for strength, leather, hang tag and patch pockets. Very unique fabric. The nomadic pastoral herders of Kachchh, India are known as Maldharis, they have been in co-existence with the native desi sheep and camels for centuries- walking together for months across the country in search of pastoral grazing lands. They provide fleeces for a cooperative of artisans who wash, handspin, dye and weave the yarn in their villages.
This is a jacquard double weave: the backing is 100% organic unbleached kala cotton from the region and the right side is 100% desi wool: A combination of ‘natural’ (undyed/unbleached) yarn and indigo dyed yarn. One of one!
